Position: Cruise Ship Doctor
Job Summary:
The Cruise Ship Doctor is responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to both guests and crew members, ranging from minor health issues to emergency medical situations. The role includes preventative care, treatment of chronic conditions, and compliance with maritime health regulations, while coordinating with port health authorities as needed. The Doctor will work closely work with the ship's leadership team to ensure a safe and healthy environment on board.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide medical care to guests and crew, including outpatient, inpatient, and ICU care as required.
- Serve as a first responder to medical emergencies, triaging, treating, and transferring patients as needed.
- Assist the Staff Captain in managing all shipboard health-related matters, including outbreak prevention, illness reporting, and compliance with international regulations.
- Manage and oversee medical supplies, and equipment, ensuring inventory is maintained at appropriate levels.
- Document patient consultations, medical history, diagnoses, and treatments in line with company billing practices.
- Participate in regular safety drills, public health inspections, and audits, ensuring compliance with USPH, CDC, and other relevant health authorities.
- Maintain a confidential doctor-patient relationship, while reporting any contagious illness that could affect shipboard health to the Staff Captain and shore-side medical teams.
- Support the medical team by providing privacy during patient examinations and ensuring a professional atmosphere in the Medical Center.
- Engage in ongoing education and training in areas such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Adult Trauma Life Support (ATLS).
- Participate in the orientation and safety training of new crew members and assist with sanitation compliance in food handling areas. Collaborate with port health authorities and shore-side medical operations to ensure seamless medical care and reporting.
Required Qualifications:
- Medical Degree from a recognized university.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in an acute care setting (ICU, ER, or General Practice). Minimum of 5 years post-graduation.
- Valid certifications in ACLS, PALS, and ATLS for the duration of the contract.
- Current medical license in good standing from the country of origin.
- Practical experience in diagnosing and treating a broad range of medical conditions, including minor surgery (suturing, removal of lesions, etc.).
- Strong command of English (verbal and written).
- Specialization in Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, Pulmonology, or Critical Care is preferred.

- Must be able to handle stressful situations, remain calm under pressure, and work 7 days a week as required.
Additional Requirements:
- STCW95 Certification: Basic Safety, Crowd Management, Crisis Management, and Ship Security/Security Awareness
- WHO-approved COVID-19 vaccination.
- C1D and/or Schengen Visa (depending on the ship’s itinerary and joining port).
- Seafarer Medical Certificate
- Seaman's book
- Ability to participate in emergency drills and respond to medical emergencies, both on duty and off.
Work Environment:
- The Cruise Ship Doctor will work in both clinical and emergency settings on board, with potential exposure to varying temperatures (indoor/outdoor).
- Must be physically fit to participate in life-saving drills, lift up to 50 pounds, and navigate the ship's facilities, including stairways.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn in certain areas, and all medical personnel must be trained in proper use of PPE and decontamination procedures.
